[Italy - Florence] BRUNUS ARETINUS, Leonardus Historiae Florentini populi [Italian]. [Trsl. Donatus Acciaiolus]. (Florence, B. di Libri, 5 June Folio: [ff., ll., roman type (title - just one line - and last 4 ff. (tables) missing but text complete; spotting - extensive on some ff. -, marg. tears reinforced to first ff., one single wormhole in inner margin of first ff. - some repaired -, very sm. repairs to f5 and xocc. marg. soiling or damp stains). 19th-c. three-quarter vellum, paper on covers, flat spine titled in ink. Second Italian edition by Donato Acciaiuoli (1429-1478), scholar and Gonfalonier of Florence, of the history of Florentine people by Brunus Aretinus which can be called "the first modern history book". The Italian humanist, historian and statesman Brunus Aretinus (ca. 1370-is often recognised as the most important historian of the early Renaissance and is called the first modern historian. Although the dates are not those used by modern historians today, Brunus is the first to divide history in three periods: Antiquity, Middle Ages and Modern. Capital space with guide-letters. Frequently found with the "Historia Florentina" by Poggius Florentinus. Ref. ISTC ib- GW (bound with the "Historia Florentina" by J. Fr.
