Italy.- Willson (Harry, fl. 1813-1852) S. Giorgio, Venezia, watercolour over pen and brown ink, heightened with white and gum arabic on thin wove paper, signed lower left and inscribed lower right, further inscribed in pencil on mount: 'drawn on the spot', 227 x 168 mm. (8 7/8 x 6 7/8 in), tipped onto mount support, minor surface dirt and small area of repaired loss in lower left, unframed, [circa 1830-1840s]; together with three other watercolours by various hands, including a View of the Environs of Rome, San Miniato al Monte, Florence, and another view of Marseilles and small quantity of Italian and travel related prints, largest 225 x 290 mm. (8 7/8 x 11 1/2 in), all unframed [19th century] (small qty.). ⁂ Working in a similar manner to Samuel Prout (1783-1852), Willson's own watercolours have previously been attributed to Prout himself (see BM acc. no. 1954,0308.1).
