Burma Long the most desirable locality for fine jadeite, Burma was the source of the present material used in this delicate carving—truly a virtuoso work in that it was formed entirely from one piece of rough—ranging from classic celadon green at the center to russet brown at the edges. A great deal of movement is expressed by the Quan Yin figure with her flowing robes and a sea theme is evoked through the presence of the carved fish, shells and sea weed. She is tethered to a mythological sea creature, a half-turtle-dragon figure, through the use of an integral link chain. Raised on a custom-fitted carved wooden base decorated with lotus leaves. Length 8in
