(Some light marginal spotting and soiling.) Contemporary green morocco, elaborately tooled in gilt and blind, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (neatly recornered and rebacked with original spine laid down). Provenance : SIR CHARLES GORE (1793-1869, signature). A fine series of views, important in the history of Jamaica. Hakewill visited Jamaica in 1820 and 1821 and here records what was to prove to be the period of greatest prosperity for the island during the 19th Century. General Sir Charles Gore a veteran of Waterloo, was deputy quarter-master general in Jamaica during the 1830s, the period of the implementation of the emancipation act.
