Vellum document with United States General Land Office seal affixed at lower left grants Samuel Cassman 320 acres in Brookville, Indiana in pursuance of a treaty made between commissioners of the United States, Jonathan Jennings, Lewis Cass, and Benjamin Park, and the Delaware Nation of Indians in 1818, in which tribal lands within the newly formed state of Indiana were ceded in return for the promise of lands farther west. Provenance:Property sold to benefit Historic Madison, Inc., Madison, IN Condition: Document with some surface soil/discoloration, heavy horizontal and vertical creasing, and wear to edges including darkening and some minor loss/tearing and creasing at edges and corners.
