Later full morocco, covers stamped in blind and gilt, spine gilt extra, a.e.g. includes a plan and seven views of philadelphia, each a copy of previous views by william birch. Although Janson’s book treats all of America, the illustrations are predominantly of Philadelphia. The author explains in the Preface: “Should it be objected that too great a proportion of [the illustrations] are taken from one city, the author’s excuse is, that, in truth scarcely any other city in America contains any edifice worthy of delineation.” The plates, however, are direct copies from those appearing in the second edition of William Birch’s City of Philadelphia. a lovely copy, with the plates fully colored .
