Autograph Letter Signed (“Th:Jefferson”), 1 p, 4to (conjoining address leaf), Monticello, January 31, 1816, to [George] Ticknor in Paris, effaced line in ink at lower left, address leaf with repaired seal holes, some pale brown stains, tipped at all edges to album leaf, still fine. Jefferson writes to a young friend who had recently arrived in Paris to complete his studies and requests him to procure several volumes of Cicero. "Dear Sir, I wrote you a long letter on the 14th inst. and as it went by duplicates thro good channels, I am sure you will get it, but a gentleman going from hence to Paris direct, which he will probably reach before either of the other channels of conveyance I will repeat from that letter but a single article, the request to add to the catalogue I formerly troubled you with, the under-written books, referring therefore to that letter, I repeat the assurances of my friendly esteem and respect...." Jefferson includes a detailed list of the various French and Latin editions of Cicero that he would like to acquire.
