JEFFERSON, THOMAS, President . Autograph letter signed ("Th:Jefferson") to Patrick Gibson of Richmond, Monticello, 3 November 1817. 1 page, 4to, 221 x 185 mm. (8 3/4 x 7 1/4 in.), a few small holes, neatly reinforced on verso with tissue, seal hole affecting two words, verso addressed to "His Excellency Thomas Jefferson Late President of the United States," and docketed by Jefferson, "Gibson Patrick," perhaps indicating the letter was a response written on the verso of the address leaf of Gibson's letter which is no longer present. PLASTER FOR MONTICELLO "A great rain having given us a full tide in our river William Johnson takes on board of two boats for me this morning 120 barrels of flour, which will probably be with you nearly as early as you will receive this by mail. I shall not therefore desire flour from Mr. Col later as I had proposed. I shall draw on you from our count to-day in favor of Saml. Carr for $199.68 and for about 150 in favor of my grandson. I have moreover requested Capt Peyton to be on the lookout for the trusty Milton boats and to send me in the course of the next 7 tons of plaister [plaster]. He is young and has more leisure, and I will avail [mys]elf of his good disposition therefore to relieve you from the [burden?] of these extra offices, giving you that only of paying [this] amount. I salute you with perfect esteem and respect...." Drafts of this and other letters to Gibson are in the Jefferson papers at the Library of Congress.
