Red half morocco gilt by Zaehnsdorf, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, the others with repeeat pattern in gilt, gilt edges. A fine early issue. London: Bensley for Bowyer, 1816 [pre-publication watermarks]. 2 parts in 1 volume, 2° (473 x 340mm). 14 hand-coloured aquatint plates, 4 folding, 5 uncoloured plates and maps. (Occasional small neat marginal repairs.) Modern red half morocco gilt, top edge gilt. FIRST EDITION. The two parts can be considered as separate works. A third part (or work) was issued under the title The Triumphs of Europe , but the publication history is clearly complicated, and not yet adequately recorded (even by Abbey). It appears that Bowyer, in an effort to take advantage of the euphoria of victory, issued the work under various titles with various combinations of both text and plates, additions and deletions being made as the latest news was released.
