Richard Gough's detailed account of the famous Bedford Hours, now in the British Library, has acquired its own fame as the first monograph in English on an illuminated manuscript. Gough himself wanted his publication to approach the élite luxury of the original, since he had copies printed on vellum with the three illustrations hand-coloured. See A.N.L.
