In John Sloan's Women, A Psychoanalysis of Women, Janice M. Coco suggests that these works reveal the painter's intimate connection to his models - despite his attempts to maintain an objective distance from them. Blonde on Blue is a classic example of his painted nudes of the late 1920s, the foreshortened reclining figure rendered with broad, expressive brushstrokes in tones of pink and yellow.
