Chapin (1823-1904) was an accomplished nineteenth-century artist and illustrator from New York whose work appeared in publications such as Harper's Weekly. He was also a noted Civil War field artist who produced the famous sketch The Surrender of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, April 12, 1865, which is housed at the Library of Congress. Condition: Areas of light toning and spotting. Not examined outside frame.
