Condition : Moderate wear including fold separations and toning, overall good. An interesting collection related to the Confederate services of John T. Biles, a lieutenant in the 28th North Carolina Infantry. At Gettysburg, the 28th NC participated in Pickett's Charge. He discusses a recent excursion to investigate a landing of Northern troops oil the New River. The Federals left before Biles's company arrived. 2) BILES. Autograph letter signed. Camp Heath: 12 January 1862. 3 pp. Letter to his mother concerning the arrival of the regiment's uniforms, describing them, and expressing his displeasure with their appearance. He reports on the arrival of a Virginia regiment and complains of the poor food in camp. 3) Manuscript document signed by 31 members of the 28th North Carolina. [Albemarle, NC]: 15 March 1864. 2 pp. A petition written and signed by Lt. E. Hurley of Co, E., 28th NC Infantry asking that Lt. Biles be assigned to light duty on account of his disability caused by a wound suffered in the foot at the Battle of Gettysburg. Autograph letter signed to Biles. "Camp of the 28th N.C.T., A.N.V." 2 pp. A letter by Crowell to Biles announcing the completion of the aforementioned petition. 5) Dr. R. B. BAKER.
