Engraved frontispiece and numerous illustrations by Abraham Santvoort or after Antonio Tempesta and others. 18th-century French citron morocco gilt, g.e. (extremities slightly scuffed, joints weak). - BIBLE, Italian. La Sacra Bibbia, tradotta in lingua Italiana, e commentata da Giovanni Diodati. Geneva: Pietro Chouët, 1640-41. 2° (313 x 200mm.). Engraved frontispiece (small hole in letterpress title). Near-contemporary black morocco, panelled in gilt, g.e. (scuffed, ties lacking). Provenance : Mansfeldt Cardonnel (bookplate); Mansfeldt de Cardonnel Dawson (bookplate). Darlow & Moule 5600. A FINE COPY of the first work with some very lively illustrations. Many of them are direct (but reversed) copies of the work of the prolific Florentine engraver Antonio Tempesta (born 1555) who died in Rome in 1630.
