Beschreibung:

[SHAKESPEARE, William (1564-1616).] The Tragedie of Julius Caesar [Extracted from the First Folio. London: Isaac Jaggard, 1623.] The first printing of Julius Caesar extracted from the First Folio. Following the publication of the First Folio in 1623, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar would not be printed separately until 1684 when it appeared in a quarto edition published by Henry Heringman and Richard Bentley Thomas North's translation of Plutarch's Lives, which had been published in 1579 and reprinted in 1595, provided the main source for Julius Caesar which was probably written and first performed in 1599—and was likely the very first Shakespeare play to be performed at the Globe Theatre. See Pforzheimer 905 (for First Folio). Folio (356 x 200mm). 11 leaves comprising 22 pages (kk-ll5v; repairs to corners); leaf ll (pages 121/122) supplied from the second folio (1632).
