The views had been made some 2 months after the actual eruption in 1883. Rogier Diederik Marius Verbeek (1845–1926) was a Dutch geologist and natural scientist. The present work, his best known, deals with the eruption of the volcanic island Krakatoa and brought volcanology into scientific prominence. Just two years before, Verbeek had done research in the area. Living in Buitenzorg on Java, he was a direct witness to the eruption. Lot Amendments Condition: Text volume with two leaves detached and edge worn; atlas volume with some foxing, long tear to tissue guard over photograph; album volume with all leaves chipped at edges, some tears; all leaves with modern backing; overall very good in fine modern bindings.
