ROZANOVA, OLGA, illustrator. Chort i rechetvortsy [The Devil and the Poets]. Petersburg: EUY, 1913. 8vo. 16pp. Original lithographed wrappers designed by O. Rozanova. Wrappers repaired at edges, new backstrip. In this critical essay, the great Futurist poet sneers at earlier Russian writers including Lermontov, Gogol, Dostoevsky and Tolstoy who took the Devil as a theme. He makes passing reference to his own works that deal with demons. He showed the piece to fellow poet Velimir Khlebnikov who made some changes. Rozanova interpreted Kruchenykh's subject with a particularly gruesome scene of the Devil's biting off the head of an infant.
