λ TWO LARGE INDIAN ARCHITECTURAL MINIATURES ON IVORY Delhi, North India, late 19th century Opaque pigments and gold on ivory, each of large oval shape, comprising an interior frontal view of the Peacock Throne in the Diwan-i-Khas of the Red Fort (Lal Qila) in Delhi, and another similar with nine oval medallions filled with architectural miniatures of the most praised and renowned Indian architectural landmarks including a view of the Taj Mahal from the Yamuna river in Agra in the centre, surrounded by the Lal Qila and Qutb Minar in Delhi, Safdar Jang's tomb, Sikandra (Akbar's tomb), the Moti Masjid in Agra, the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib) in Amritsar, Salim Chishti's Dargah and the main entrance to Fatehpur Sikri, each mounted, glazed and framed, the largest 17.5cm x 13.8cm excluding the frame. The miniature of the Peacock Throne is a larger but practically identical example of the famous architectural ivory miniature of the same subject in the V&A Museum collection (acc. no. 03557(IS)). This item may require Export or CITES licences in order to leave the UK or the European Union. It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that lots have the relevant licences before shipping.
