LAFAYETTE, Gilbert du Moitier, Marquis de. Autograph note signed ("Lafayette") to an unidentified recipient, Washington, 12 January 1825. 1 page, oblong (198 x 123 mm.), neat repair to fold on verso, otherwise fine. In French. Lafayette reports that his friend, Mr. Rush, is to receive two thousand dollars "that I asked the Bank of the United States Bank to send him," which will be used to aid French people in need in the United States. Lafayette was in Washington after completing a U.S. tour, which had "provoked demonstrations of frenzied enthusiasm without precedent or parallel in American history" (DAB). -- LAFAYETTE. Autograph letter signed ("Lafayette") to General Michaud, La Grange, 22 December 1828. 1 page, 4to, intact original red seal, fine. In French. Would be pleased to meet with Michaud's friend, Mr. Agron, "and chat with him of his business...[and] to contribute to a nomination that you approve..." as Lafayette he is "still in a position...to write on the subject to the prefect," which he may not be at the time of the elections. -- LAFAYETTE. Autograph letter signed ("Lafayette") to [Nicolas] Ponce in Paris; La Grange, 8 Novemember 1825. 1/3 page, 8vo, minor tear to integral address panel, otherwise fine. In French. Lafayette regrets that he was not able to see Ponce, a peer in the National Guard, during his brief sojourn in Paris; he indicates that he was only there for several days and will not be returning to the city until January.
