LAMBERT, Aylmer Bourke. Jennings], 1803-1824. 2 volumes, large 2° (575 x 460mm., volume II 640 x 480mm.), uncoloured portrait of Lambert in volume II, 58 fine hand-coloured plates after FERDINAND and FRANCIS BAUER and others and 7 uncoloured plates (portrait, many plates in volume I, uncoloured plates in volume II and a few margins spotted; one text leaf with tear repaired; plate 36 volume I bound inverted; lacking one text leaf in volume II (?). Modern green half morocco, labels lettered in gilt on upper covers, spines gilt in 6 compartments. SCARCE FIRST EDITION, usually uncoloured. Issued over a long period of years, each copy was made up, with many irregularities, from the material available to the publishers at the time and no two copies are known to be exactly alike. Volume I of this copy contains 44 plates, numbered 1-37 (38) 39-43 + 37bis including uncoloured plate 35. Volume II has 15 coloured plates, variously numbered including a duplicate plate 42 watermarked 1827 and 6 uncoloured plates including a stained smaller plate from another copy(?). cf.
