Map of North and South America, shows California as an island, based on the second Sanson model. First issued in Atlantis sylloge compendiosa...or Nova totius Geographia telluris projectio by Gerard and Leonard Valck (or Valk), circa 1702. It was then reissued from the same plate in Nova totius geographica telluris projectio by Gerard Valck in circa 1720. Cartouche (in lower left) gives measurements in eight different scales, presented as stone marker, flanked by natives trading with Dutch merchants. Vignette in lower right also shows natives trading with seaman. McLaughlin, California as an Island 153. Lot Amendments Condition: A little dust soiling and a few slight stains; very good or better.
