Lannes states in part `I have the honour to send to Your Excellency several proposals of appointments of Colonels to the 2nd and 4th Swiss regiments.. to replace Captain Wurtz de Rudens…I beg that Your Excellence suggests to His Majesty the appointment of Alexander Watteville of Berne… The bad behaviour of Captain Daniel Neser.. I suggest to replace him and appoint judge Weltner who Your Excellency recommended..´ And before concluding `I beg Your Excellency will kindly submit my requests to His Majesty..´ Lannes was appointed Duc de Montebello only four days before signing the present letter.
