Large Kashmiri Qur'an, in Arabic, illuminated manuscript on paper [Northern India (Kashmir), probably c. 1800] complete, 384 leaves (plus 4 fly-leaves), single column, 13 lines bold black naskh, some vocalisation and diacritics in red, opening 2 surah, centrally located Surah al-Isra and closing bifolia with illuminated polychrome borders, decorated with floral vines in bold and colourful patterns, these leaves with interlinear colouring also in gold, circular devices marking the verses throughout, gilt devices marking the important sections of the Qur'an throughout, a few leaves repaired with gauze, some of the illumination repaired along creases or closed tears, a few outer margins repaired (not affecting text), overall in very good and presentable condition, 415 by 275 mm.; on modern blind-stamped morocco with flap This is an exceptionally large Kashmiri Qur'an, made even more notable by the distinct lack of illumination or highlighiting of the surah headings. The text runs continuously from the begining to the end the of the work with no notable breaks other than the illumination of the borders of Surah al-Isra (a common feature in Qur'ans from this region).
