Contemporary half green morocco, gilt, spine in 7 panels with raised bands and gilt devices. Condition: leather at spine foot of one volume worn, joints very lightly rubbed. an extra-illustrated first edtion containg layard’s original imaginative drawings for the fantastic illustrations to maundevile’s adventures. Though a fictional figure, Maundevile’s adventures were based on accounts (however embellished) of real travellers and was actually first “published” in the 14th century.
