Beschreibung:

For an identical example, see figure 23.C on page 137 of "The American Eagle Pommel Sword" by E. Andrew Mowbray. This sword was probably imported to America in the early part of the 19th century. It is in the French taste, but features many patriotic American motifs. The sword has a slightly curved blade with wide partial single fuller on each side. There is an engraved American splayed eagle on the right side below 17 stars and an "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" banner, as well as a liberty cap with crossed flags and other design with crossed American flags and arms. The other side features crossed cannons, American flags with a liberty pole and a wreath around the motto "Honour / and my / Country". Cast and chased hilt of brass with languettes. Detailed Le-Page eagle head pommel and leather-wrapped grip decorated with strands of copper wire. Complete with its original brass scabbard with brass mounts. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with traces of blued finish and gilt wash, some minor nicks to edge. Hilt retains a mellowing patina and shows some high edge wear. Grip shows some loosening wire and losses to leather wrap. Scabbard is polished and has scattered dents, throat mount is absent. A very elaborate imported American eagle pommel sword. DMG. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport. Name Value Blade Length 33 - 1/2" Overall Length 39 - 3/4" Paperwork
