Le Porte-Feuille necessaire à tous les seigneurs qui font le tour d'Italie [ Il Portafoglio necessario a tutti quelli che fanno il giro d'Italia ], London: A. Drury, 1774. 8° (184 x 125mm). French and Italian title pages, text in both languages. Double-page general map of Italy and 26 folding engraved route maps by P. Andrews hand-coloured in outline (First word of Italian title slightly shaved.) Finely bound in contemporary English red straight-grained morocco, triple gilt fillet to covers with fleurons at inner corners, spine gilt in 6 compartments with raised bands, green morocco lettering-piece in one reading "Roads of Italy", others with repeated floral ornament (extremities slightly rubbed), marbled endpapers, g.e. Provenance : William Wrightson of Cufworth in Yorkshire (signature and armorial bookplate). A work very similar to Carlo Barbieri's famous travel guide, first published in Bologna in 1771, with 24 rather than 26 folding route maps and text in French and Italian. Not listed in ESTCm.
