CONTEMPORARY LEBANESE BINDING of dark brown goatskin, sides panelled with blind outer roll and 4 rounded floral sprays with traces of gilt at centre, a gilt cross in each spine compartment, 2 spine labels, yellow edges (some rubbing at extremities). One of a small group of Christian Arabic books printed at the monastery of St. John the Baptist at Dair ash-Shuwair, Lebanon. The press was established in 1734 by the Syrian Abdallah Zahir (1684-1748), who also cut the punches for the type. A very fresh copy. Darlow & Moule 1661; Schnurrer 360.
