The illustrations for this edition, taken from the 1733 edition (lot 554), are no longer inserted within the text at the relevant place, they have been assembled onto plates bound at the end. The text is still that of the 1651 first edition; the only addition to the text is a letter to the reader from the publisher (on a2), stating that this edition is being produced because the earlier ones have become very rare.
Folio (380 x 250 mm), uncut. Roman and italic type, 43 lines plus headline. collation: a-c4 A-Bb4 Cc2: 114 leaves. Engraved device on title-page, engraved head- and tailpieces, 19 engraved plates. (Occasional spotting or staining.)
binding: Contemporary patterned paper wrappers (379 x 250 mm), manuscript paper label on spine. (Binding slightly short at foredge, spine torn.)
acquisition: Purchased in 2013 from Antiquariato Librario Bado e Mart, Padua.
