MONTPENSIER, PARIS, NO. 54033, CIRCA 1870 With frosted gilt-finished lever movement, bi-metallic compensation balance, quarter repeating on two steel gongs via two polished steel hammers, under engraved cuvette, the silvered dial with Roman Gothic numerals, decorative chased centrefield, blued steel hands, the highly ornate case with silver front and back covers finely chased and depicting a mythical masked head, surrounded by a proliferation of scrolls and foliage to the back, the front with similarly decorated scrolls and foliage surmounted by stylised gold initials on a shield, with a finely chased Gothic clover bow and pendant, quarter repeating slide in the band, cuvette signed and numbered 48 mm. diam.
