3 single page manuscript letters from China with original envelopes, two photographs of Yuen Yeck Bow, one (mounted) being 14x10 cm (6x4"), and the other 10x7 cm (4x3"), and two receipts for exchange checks sent to Yuen Yeck Bow in China. Yuen Yeck Bow (better known as Jack Ellis) was the cook and family manager for W.T. Ellis family of Marysville in Yuba County, CA for forty-nine years. William Turner Ellis, Jr. was the mayor of Marysville in 1894 -1898. The rear of the mounted photo of Yuen Yeck Bow reads in pencil: "Yuen Yeck Bow (Jack Ellis) Sailed for Home from California June 12th 1913." Included are 3 letters written by Yuen Yeck Bow to Ellis Jr. in 1914, after going back home to China. Included as well are two receipts for Decker Jewett Co. exchange checks sent to Bow while he was in China. From 1864 until the end of W.T. Ellis' (senior) life, the Ellis family employed Chinese cook Yuen Yeck Bow (Jack Ellis), wjo was cook and family manager for the banker John J. Jewett as well, and before that injured in The Sierra Mountain during the construction of The Central Pacific Railroad. Jack Ellis worked from 1864 to 1913 for the Ellis Family, In 1913 W.T. Ellis Sr passed away and Yuen Yeck Bow took leave of the family and returned to China. He lived both in Hong Kong and Kungyifow and the province of Goungdong. While there he wrote letters back including news about Yuen and His Family and also request for money. The larger photo of Jack with Gold Watch of W.T. Ellis SR. given to Jack before return to China, also a photo from Jack in Feb. 1915 in China. More to this story is written in the book "Memories, My Seventy Two Years in the Romantic County of Yuba" by W.T. Ellis, printed by J. H. Nash, 1939.
