Lew Anderson's 1966 Green Bay Packers Super Bowl I 10K Gold Cufflinks These football shaped cufflinks boast pair of diamonds set against an enameled "G" around which is embossed "Green Bay Packers, 1966 World Champions." Having won the last three out of five NFL championship games, the defending champion Green Bay Packers sealed their 1960's dynasty by winning the first ever "AFL-NFL World Championship Game", or as we know it, the Super Bowl, played on January 15, 1967 against the AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs. Although the 14-2 Packers were without star running back Paul Hornung (out with a pinched nerve), the Pack was well armed with veteran Bart Starr, the top rated quarterback and season MVP, who completed 156 out of 251 (62.2 percent) passes for 2,257 yards, 14 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions. The Chiefs (12-3-1) countered with Len Dawson, the top rated passer in the AFL. Simulcast on CBS and NBC, the Chiefs kept the game close at 14-10 at the half. But the Pack pulled away in the third quarter, helped by two Elijah Pitts rushing touchdowns and (a very hung over) Max McGee's second touchdown, for a final score of 35-10, the second of the Packers' three consecutive championships. Green Bay quarterback Bart Starr earned the first Super Bowl MVP in NFL history by throwing 16 of 23 for 250 yards and two touchdowns, with 1 interception. Also included is a typeset note from Vince Lombardi that reads "Please accept this gift as an expression of gratitude for all you have done for the Green Bay Packers. Vince Lombardi." Excellent condition overall with minor wear from use.
