The rest of the collection comprises works by the author including his first published book Spirits in Bondage (London, 1919, under the nom de plume Clive Hamilton, The Screwtape Letters (London, 1942) and his autobiography Surprised by Joy (London, 1955), some with correspondence to Lewis loosely-inserted. Provenance : George Sayer (b.1914). A REMARKABLE COLLECTION OF WORKS BY LEWIS OR FROM HIS LIBRARY, MANY INSCRIBED OR ANNOTATED BY HIM, FROM THE COLLECTION OF HIS BIOGRAPHER GEORGE SAYER Sayer was a pupil of Lewis's at Oxford, and the two men remained friends.
