Davis's appointment as "Assessor of internal Revenue for the First Collection District of the State of Massachusetts, ..." countersigned by the Secretary of the Treasury ("S P Chase"), with an embossed seal of the Treasury Department lower left, endorsed on the verso by William Whitman, Justice of the Peace for Plymouth County, and with Internal Revenue stamp; short marginal tear, several long fold separations, one affecting Chase's signature, some marginal stains.
