LINCOLN, Abraham. Autograph manuscript signed ("Lincoln and Logan for complainant"), a petition for plaintiff in a lawsuit, containing some 52 words in Lincoln's hand, [Circuit Court, Sangamon County, Illinois], 30 June 1843. 1 page, 8 o, a few trifling edge tears, else fine. LINCOLN AND HIS SECOND LAW PARTNERSHIP. Lincoln, for the firm of Logan and Lincoln, asks the Chancery Court to "issue a subpoena on behalf of the complaint for Henry Mock, Thomas Hurst, & Thomas Lewis to take their depositions at Esq. Moffett's on Wednesday the fifth day of July next..." Lincoln's second law partnership with Stephen T. Logan, who shared Lincoln's Whig politics, was launched in April 1841 and ended amicably in 1844 when Logan decided to practice with his son. Logan claimed that Lincoln's "knowledge of law was very small at the time" and that Lincoln "only began to study law and develop 'considerable ambition in the law' under his tutelage" (Neely, Abraham Lincoln Encyclopedia ). Apparently unpublished.
