LINCOLN, Abraham. Letter signed ("A. Lincoln") to H.B. Kittredge, the text in the hand of Secretary John G. Nicolay, Springfield, Illinois, 1 November 1860. 1 page, 8vo, tipped into Tarbell's extra-illustrated Life of Lincoln with other documents (see below). Lincoln satisfies an autograph seeker just days before his election to the Presidency. The letter reads in full: "Herewith I send you my autograph which you request." Not in Basler or Supplements. [ With :] TARBELL, Ida. The Life of Abraham Lincoln, Drawn from original sources and containing many Speeches, Letters, and Telegrams hitherto unpublished...reproductions from original Paintings, Photographs, etc. New York: Lincoln History Society, [1909]. 4 vols, 4 o (8 7/8 x 5¾ in.), orange-red levant morocco, covers richly gilt-tooled with American eagle emblem, gilt spines, t.e.g., others uncut. EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with the insertion of numerous engraved and lithographed portraits and images, plus 23 ORIGINAL LETTERS AND DOCUMENTS including: a Lincoln LS (see above), ULYSSES S. GRANT, ALS to Gen. George Meade, City Point, Virginia, 22 Sept. 1864, on Headquarters of Armies of the United States, concerning the assignment of an officer; David G. Farragut (LS, 18 Feb. 1828, a letter of reference for Mr. J. Acosta); Jefferson Davis (ALS); John C. Calhoun (LS as Secretary of War); William T. Sherman (LS, to William F. Gilchrest, 28 January 1890); Lewis Cass (DS); William H. Seward (ALS); Millard Fillmore (partially printed DS as President, an order to affix the seal to a Presidential pardon granted in Fillmore's waning days in office); Lyman Trumbull (ALS); Simon Cameron (ALS); Gideon Welles (LS); James Buchanan (DS as Sec. of State); Benjamin Butler (LS); George C.
