Four lines plus signature and date-line on a small oblong card, 48 x 80mm. (1 7/8 x 3 1/8 in.), verso with traces of former mounting. Lincoln writes to Chase: "Hon. Sec. of Treasury please see and hear this lady, who has lost a son in our service A. Lincoln." The berieved mother's inquiry may have concerned army pay still owed her son, or the payment of his pension.
