Verne, Jules. From the Earth to the Moon, Direct in Ninety-seven Hours and Twenty Minutes: and a Trip Round It. Translated from the French by Louis Mercier, M.A. and Eleanor E. King. New York: Scribner, Armstrong & Company, 1874. First US edition, with only one other Verne title advertised on back of tp. 8vo, cloth covered beveled boards, heavily decorated with gilt and black, might have been terra cotta at one time, now faded to peach, navy blue endpapers, 323pp. plus 4pp ads. Verne, Jules. Meridiana: The Adventures of Three Englishmen and Three Russians in South Africa. New York: Scribner, Armstrong & Co., 1874. Back of tp lists the other two titles in this lot. First American edition. Small 8vo, green embossed cloth, gilt title front and spine, yellow endpapers, 232pp. Plus two pp ads for the other two Scribner editions of the Verne titles. Verne, Jules. A Journey to the Centre of the Earth. New York: Scribner, Armstrong & Company, n.d. Advertising on back of tp lists all three of these Verne titles published by Scribner, and tp lists another not published by them. Gift inscription on ffep dated 1904. Small 8vo, brown embossed boards, gilt title front and spine, similar to Meridiana (above), yellow endpapers, 305pp. Condition: "From the Earth to the Moon" with 121-122 separated, as is half-title for "Round the Moon." Textblock broken at pl. 120. Signature with Pl. 122 through p. 142 hanging on by a thread. Several other signatures coming loose. Shelfwear, esp. corners, spine sunned. Overall a bit rough, but seems to be complete. Overall a bit rough. "Meridiana" has signature pp. 73-86 separated, break forming between pp 88 and 89; signature 89-104 hanging by a thread and several others loose. Heavy shelf wear and corner bumping. "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" with moderate shelfwear, bumped corners. Previous owner's stamps in all.
