Mis en françois par Gabriel Chappuis [...]. Paris, for J. Houzé, 12mo: [22]-ff. (lacking ff. 282-& 385-sl. browned, upper corner of f. lacking, dampstaining to some corners). 17th-c. overl. vellum, gilt central lozenge-shape ornament on covers, gilt orn. flat spine, ties (rebacked, front joint starting to split, gilt faded). Rare translation by Gabriel Chappuys (1st Fr. ed.: Paris, of Equicola's famous work on love, for which he studied various poets. Although composed between and it was first published in Italian in Venice Equicola (ca. 1470-was a Renaissance humanist, bibliophile and a courtier of Isabella d'Este and Federico II Gonzaga.
