[Mystical prayers for the Sabbath by Isaac Luria Ashkenazi (1534-1572), edited, and supplied with Yiddish commentaries, by Solomon Zalman London]. Amsterdam: Naftali Hertz Levi Rofe, 1737. 116 leaves. 16mo, 127 x 85 mm. (5 x 3 3/8 in.), later half calf over marbled boards, library paper labels on spine, some wear to upper spine end; light staining and browning, ink stamp on title, bookplate. Roest 712; not in Zedner. Isaac Luria's Tikkunei Shabbat consist of traditional and newly composed piyyutim, Biblical sections (such as the Song of Songs) and traditional and newly composed prayers. The texts are full of acrostics, indicating the names of the patriarchs and of Isaac Luria, and the secret divine names. In Eastern Europe this mystically inspired, originally Sephardic prayerbook eventually substituted the Ashkenazic ritual completely. (3)
