'Arundel's role as a bibliophile and the range of his scholarly interests are hard to appreciate today because his library has been dispersed—most of the manuscripts are in the British Library, while the books have been scattered among public and private collections, where many now lie untraced—but it is clear that he possessed one of the greatest libraries in the British Isles, probably totalling over 3000 volumes' (ODNB).
