Filippo Pigafetta (1533-1604) was an Italian mathematician and explorer. His "Relatione del reame del Congo" (1591) was translated into English, Latin, French, and German. Duarte Lopes, Portuguese trader to Congo and Angola, who wrote one of the earliest descriptions of Central Africa.
