Hendrik Lorentz (1853-1928) was a theoretical physicist at the University of Leiden who made important contributions to our understanding of electromagnetism and relativity and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1902 for his explanation of the Zeeman effect. Lorentz laid much of the groundwork for Einstein's theory of special relativity and was supportive of the younger scientist's discovery, discussing it in a series of important papers and lectures. He was also one of the few physicists to support Einstein's search for a theory of general relativity. This volume, published posthumously, contains eleven reminiscences of Lorentz by colleagues and family, including one by Einstein.
