An interesting archive of journals belonging to an important early Los Angeles businessman. Otis Lockhart was involved in real estate development, oil drilling, and ranching in the San Fernando Valley. In these journals he records his business activity with the partnership of Lockhart and Leonard as well as the Rodeo Oil Company, giving a first-hand account of the heady days of oil exploration in Southern California. By 1917, Lockhart turns his attention to ranching, and an entire ledger in this archive is dedicated to his successful Holstein breeding program, complete with photographs of the cows.
