Paysage avec arbres - rectoD’après l’antique: buste de Caracalla - versowatercolour on paper - rectopencil on paper - verso11.8 by 19.4cm., 4⅝ by 7⅝in.Framed: 32.2 by 39.7cm., 12⅝ by 15 5/8in.Executed circa 1885-90.Condition reportThis double sided watercolour is executed on a sheet of strong wove paper and hinged along the upper edge to an overlay mount. The top edge is probably the trimmed bound edge of a sketchbook page as it has some tiny losses in places. On the verso, the edges are reinforced with 5mm of thin Japanese paper. Mount and time staining are visible on the recto and show different tones indicating prior mount openings. The recto shows that the top edge has two replaced corners and another one at the foot on the right; these added pieces have been carried out to a high standard. Both the watercolour and pencil medium are strong and very well preserved. This work is in overall very good condition.
