Lot consists of a Model 1850 Field Officers Sword, Model 1840 NCOs sword, and 1860 Naval Cutlass. (A) Imported Model 1850 Field Officers Sword manufactured by Solingen. Blade is etched 3/4 of the way from the base. Grip is made of shark skin and has twisted brass wire wrapped around it. Brass hilt and pommel. Complete with scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is in good condition with scattered areas of light spotting and corrosion. Sharkskin grip is in good condition with the grip fading to a light brown. Hilt has turned a pleasing patina and shows few handling marks. Pommel retains areas of bright brass, but also has areas of browning patina. Scabbard is in great condition with minor spots of corrosion scattered. (B) Model 1860 Naval Cutlass manufactured by Ames in 1862. Left side of ricasso is stamped "Made by/Ames MFG Co./ Chicopee/Mass". Right side is stamped "U.S.N. D.R./1862". Leather grip. Brass hilt, guard, and pommel. Complete with leather scabbard and frog, which are scarce. CONDITION: Blade is in good condition showing spotting along the length of the blade. Leather grip shows minor surface cracks and handling marks all around. Brass hilt, guard, and pommel have turned a pleasing brown patina. Scabbard is in fair condition with lots of surface wear. Tip of scabbard has been ripped, and there is a small electrical tape repair mid way down. Frog is in good condition with small tear on either side. (C) Model 1840 NCO sword manufactured by Ames in 1863. Left side of ricasso is partially obliterated, but does read Ames. Right side is marked "U.S./DFM/1863". Grip, hilt, knucklebow, and pommel are brass. Complete with scabbard and frog, which is scarce. CONDITION: Blade is in great condition showing an area of rust and corrosion along the bottom 2 to 2 -1/2" of the blade, spotting scattered throughout. Brass components have turned a pleasing patina and show few minor handling marks. Scabbard shows mild corrosion with the majority of the brass components showing a yellow/brown patina. Frog is in excellent condition showing only surface wear. Overall an excellent assortment of U.S. Civil War swords.
