Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Amaranth, Satinwood and Sycamore Side Cabinet Attributed to Francois Linke, circa 1900 The mottled green and gray rectangular marble top of break front outline with ovolo corners, above a conforming case enclosing three frieze drawers decorated with bacchic vines, over two parquetry inlaid hinged cupboard doors with floral garlands centering an oval plaque depicting an allegorical figure of a Sacrifice to Love, flanked by freestanding columnar uprights, each supported by a putto, raised on toupie feet. Height 35 1/2 inches, width 53 1/4 inches, depth 22 1/4 inches. Doyle New York sold an identical cabinet attributed to Linke, Belle Epoque sale, February 24, 2010, See Christopher Payne's Francois Linke 1855-1946 The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, p. 211, pl. 230, for a related side cabinet made by Linke, which he adapted from a side cabinet made by Martin Carlin in 1785 for Madame Victoire, decorated with Japanese lacquer and parquetry, which is now in the Musee du Louvre. There are two secretaires a abattant by Jean-Henri Riesener (1734-1806) in the collection of furniture in the Wallace Collection at Hertford House that are each mounted with a bronze oval medallion that appears to be identical to the medallion on the present side cabinet.
