Łukasz Stoklosa Versailles, 2020 Oil on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Born in 1986 in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. In 2010 he graduated from The Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and immediately was invited to the group show "Ars Homo Erotica" in National Museum in Warsaw. His first solo exhibition "A Tale of Winter " took place at Zderzak Gallery in 2011 and revealed the artist's trademark atmosphere of romanticism and decadence: silver walls, palace interiors, winter landscapes and portraits of movie actors as historical figures. His next solo shows at Zderzak - "The composition of Paintings" (2013) and "No 392″ (2015) were both awarded The "Marka" Prize for the best art events in Krakow. In 2014 he joined the group of the most promising artists of the world, selected by an international jury for "100 Painters of Tomorrow" - a compendium edited by Kurt Beers and published by Thames&Hudson, London-New York. Stoklosa is inspired by popular culture: B movies, television series, and pornography. His pictures are sensual and intelligent, they allure and repel, they have multiple false bottoms, just like any good noir film. His pictures and spatial objects have already found their way into many private collections. They have been presented in London, Antwerp, Vienna, Budapest, Assenheim and thoroughout Poland.
