Beschreibung:

Twelve NASA press photographs, gelatin silver prints, featuring images of the Moon taken by the Lunar Orbiter III. Images show different sections of the Moon's craterous surface, including portions of Oceanus Pocellarum, Cavalerius Hills, craters Copernicus and Theophilus (the prominent impact crater that is among those visible from Earth 5 days after the new moon), crater Hyginus and Hyginus Rille. The lot includes two official NASA "Black Number" prints: L-67-2825 and L-66-2931 with NASA captions printed in black on the reverse. Further three images 67-H-308, 67-H-310 and 67-H-311 feature violet mimeographed captions on the reverse while remaining seven photographs have typed captions affixed to the reverse. All photographs measure approximately 26.5 x 20.5 cm (10 ½ x 8 inches), with margins. The Lunar Orbiter program was a series of five unmanned lunar orbiter missions launched by the United States from 1966 through 1967. Lunar Orbiter III was launched on the 5th February 1967. The primary objective Lunar Orbiter III was to continue the Orbiter I and Orbiter II task of photographing promising areas of the lunar surface to determine their adequacy as Apollo and/or Surveyor landing sites.
