Two works in one volume, 8° (200 x 133mm). First work: with two printed catalogues [16 and 22 pp.], partially annotated by Wodhull; the second work: with avertissement , table of subjects, and price-list, priced throughout probably by Abbey. Contemporary half calf, red morocco spine labels (rebacked preserving much of the spine, one label mostly lost, sides scuffed and worn, corners rubbed, front free endpaper part renewed). Provenance : Michael Wodhull (1740-1816; title signature, annotations) – Gilbert R. Redgrave (inscription dated Sydenham, London, 2 May 1910) – John Roland Abbey (bookplate, inscription recording the purchase from Francis Edwards in 1942). THE WODHULL-REDGRAVE-ABBEY COPY of two important 18th-century catalogues, the first partly annotated by Wodhull, 'among the most knowledgeable of English bibliophiles' (ODNB). The first catalogue relates to the duplicates from the MacCarthy-Reagh library, resulting from his recent acquisition of the second collection of Girardot de Préfond, including incunabula (for example a copy of the first Biblia Latina printed in Paris in 1476) and early printed books, literature, travel, and history. The second, Le Camus de Limare's collection, was strong in early Italian and French printing, the classics, etc., all finely bound, but at this early date must be rated as particularly important for its extensive holdings in the history of science and natural history. It is rare, especially complete with the printed price-list. Abbey has evidently transcribed the prices from the list in the catalogue proper. North 325.
