Manufacturer: Rookwood Artist: Deb Smith Description: In 2011 Rookwood artists have been developing new glazes and clay bodies with the intent of creating artist signed works again. The year-long development is culminating with an offering of some 30 hand decorated pieces that will be available for sale at Rookwood’s Holiday Trunk Show on December 10th and 11th. The pieces are a collection of works by Rookwood Artist-Decorator, Deborah Smith, painting on a 2011 vase form designed by Allan Nairn, Rookwood’s Art Director. This lot is the first of the new pieces to be available for sale. Humler & Nolan is pleased to assist our friends at Rookwood by offering Deb Smith’s covered urn in our auction as a precursor to the sale of other new artist signed vases during the December 10th and 11th weekend. Decoration consists of apple blossoms on a peach ground. Standing 9 1/4 inches tall, the urn is uncrazed and in beautiful condition. Because this is an early test piece, all marks are done in black slip. Marks include the Rookwood logo, the date and the artist’s monogram. We wish our friends at Rookwood great success with their new efforts, now and in the years to come. At the trunk show there will also be plenty of test pieces and other one-of-a-kind works by Rookwood Artist Jim Robinson and others. And while there you will see Rookwood’s new collection of Annual Christmas ornaments and other Holiday collectables. The Show will take place on December 10th and 11th from 10AM until 4PM at Rookwood’s studios at 1920 Race Street. It’s one block North of Findlay Market and there’s plenty of on-street parking available.
